Students begin by defining their individual value structure and then apply a step-by-step process for making tough decisions, when the choices are between two right answers. This class teaches students HOW to think, not WHAT to think. Taught by nationally recognized trainer Mike Swift, Assistant Principal of Student Activities at Chula Vista High School in Chula Vista, CA.

A quick look at the words “citizen” and “citizenship” to ensure a common definition, followed by a chance to review what it means to be a citizen of the United States of America. This class contains thoughts on citizenship from various individuals and features a 20-minute presentation by Mike Smith to stimulate discussion and open the dialog on the subject of citizenship. This class offers the students an opportunity to explore their understanding of the words and then the concepts of responsibility and service, as they relate to their citizenship. For student leaders, it offers a look at helping the general student body expand their commitment to service, along with several ways to enhance the community service that’s already being done.
